Connect Your Watch
Bring your sleep, heart rate and workouts into GGAB through Apple Health or Google Health Connect — including Garmin watches.

What a watch addsLink to this section
Connect a watch and GGAB reads your recovery next to your badminton: a daily readiness score, sleep, resting heart rate, and your heart rate rally by rally once a workout is synced to a match video.
The simplest way in is the health app already on your phone. On an iPhone that's Apple Health. On Android it's Health Connect (shown in GGAB as Google Health). Almost every watch — Apple Watch, Garmin, Samsung, Pixel Watch, Fitbit, Amazfit — can write to one of them, so GGAB reads your watch through it.
You connect from the GGAB phone app. The website can't reach the health app on your phone, so this one step happens on your phone.
Connect on iPhone (Apple Health)Link to this section
- Make sure your watch's own app writes to Apple Health. Apple Watch does this on its own. For other watches, see Garmin watches or your watch app's settings.
- Open the GGAB app and go to Account → Your data → Apple Health.
- Agree to share health data with GGAB if you haven't yet.
- In Apple's permission sheet, tap Turn On All, then Allow.
GGAB pulls in the last two weeks straight away and keeps syncing from then on.
Connect on Android (Health Connect)Link to this section
- Health Connect is built into Android 14 and newer. On Android 13 or older, install Health Connect from the Play Store first.
- Make sure your watch's app writes to Health Connect. See Garmin watches or your watch app's settings.
- Open the GGAB app and go to Account → Your data → Google Health.
- Agree to share health data with GGAB if you haven't yet.
- Allow every category Health Connect asks about.
You can also connect from the watch step when you first set up the app.
Garmin watchesLink to this section
GGAB no longer links to Garmin Connect directly. Your Garmin data reaches GGAB through your phone's health app instead, which takes two switches: one in Garmin Connect, one in GGAB.
Already had Garmin connected?
Everything Garmin already sent GGAB stays: past workouts, readiness history and synced match heart rate. New Garmin data stops arriving through the old link, so set up the steps below to keep your recovery current.
On iPhoneLink to this section
- In the Garmin Connect app, open Settings → Connected Apps → Apple Health and turn sharing on. (You can also turn it on from the Health app: tap your profile, then Apps → Garmin Connect.)
- Allow every category Garmin asks to write: heart rate, workouts, sleep, steps and active energy.
- In GGAB, go to Account → Your data → Apple Health and allow access.
On AndroidLink to this section
- You need Android 14 or newer.
- In the Garmin Connect app, open Settings → Connected Apps → Health Connect and allow Garmin to write your data.
- In GGAB, go to Account → Your data → Google Health and allow access.
Garmin starts writing to your phone's health app from the moment you switch it on. It doesn't send older days, so your history in GGAB picks up from there.
What changes for Garmin ownersLink to this section
Garmin shares less with Apple Health and Health Connect than it did with GGAB directly. Here's what changes:
- HRV doesn't come through. Garmin keeps HRV inside its own app. GGAB's readiness score runs on what it does receive (mainly sleep) and will show a lower confidence.
- Match heart rate is less detailed. Garmin sends heart rate during workouts at a coarser rate than before, so rally-by-rally effort is rougher. On iPhone, Garmin may only send a workout's high and low heart rate.
- Sleep, workouts and steps come through as before.
If rally-by-rally heart rate matters most to you, an Apple Watch on iPhone records the most detail through Apple Health.
Get your matches into GGABLink to this section
When you play, start an activity on your watch (Badminton if it has one, otherwise an indoor cardio or "Other" activity). The workout lands in GGAB, where you can sync it to your match video and see heart rate rally by rally.
Other wearablesLink to this section
Whoop, Oura, Polar and similar devices link directly: in the phone app through Account → Your data → Other wearables, or on the website from the Recovery card under Your game.
TroubleshootingLink to this section
- Nothing shows up after connecting. Open your watch's app once so it syncs to the phone, then open GGAB. New data can take a few minutes to appear.
- "Health Connect unavailable" on Android. Install or update Health Connect from the Play Store, then try again.
- I turned a category off by accident. On iPhone, open Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → GGAB and turn it back on. On Android, open Health Connect, then App permissions → GGAB.
- Readiness says "calibrating". GGAB compares each day with your own normal. It needs about five days of data before it shows a score.
