Yonex Mavis 300 Review

Yonex Mavis 300 Badminton Nylon Shuttle Review

When you start off playing badminton, you likely start off playing with nylon/plastic shuttles. This is because nylon shuttles are simply more affordable and durable than feather shuttles. This quality makes nylon shuttles popular for recreational and school play.

You can find nylon shuttles from many brands but the most popular ones are from Yonex. In this article I will be reviewing the Yonex Mavis 300 Nylon shuttle.

Speed/Feel

The Yonex Mavis 300 Nylon shuttles are a bit too fast. The feel of the Mavis 300s is also a bit lacking in comparison to the Mavis 350s and Yonex feather shuttles.

Generally shots like drives and net shots feel a lot faster which really tests your reaction time. At the same time, clears, drops, and smashes don’t have much of a difference in speed which compensates for the drives and net shots.

The biggest complaint comes from the feel. Everything except for net shots feel much more lackluster especially in the sound. The Mavis 300s can sometimes leave you wondering whether you hit the shuttle or not. When you play a shot, it feels much softer (thus not much difference in net shots because shots are originally played soft) and there isn’t much sound in clears and smashes which leaves you with a rather unsatisfying feeling.

The speed and feel also degrade much faster as the condition of the shuttle worsens.

Durability

The durability of the Mavis 300s is also lackluster when compared to other nylon shuttles but as a nylon shuttle, it already has a much higher durability than a feather shuttle. These shuttles become extremely fast after around two sessions of heavy play.

The worst part the Mavis 300s degrading is that, as mentioned before, they become faster at an exponential rate. So even if the shuttle still looks okay after some heavy play, its speed has already risen.

Price

But it all gets better with the price… or does it?

The Yonex Mavis 300s have a price of about $13.00 USD which is about the cheapest you can find on the market. If you’re desperate about saving money, then definitely go for these shuttles.

Although, you can get a much better pack of nylon shuttles at around a dollar to three more. The Yonex Mavis 350s are at a very great value. They offer more than the Yonex Mavis 300s for only a few dollars more. You can check out my review of it here.

Conclusion

Overall at 8/10, the Yonex Mavis 300 Nylon Shuttle is a great option for those getting into badminton that want to play with nylon shuttles and have very little to spend. But if you do have a little more to spend, definitely check out the Yonex Mavis 350s.
